Daisy

Day 5 post surgery.  Daisy is back to her routine.  She was feeling irritation as her fur started growing back from where they shaved for surgery, but after getting her some soft booties for her back legs to avoid the rough scratch of her paw, I think her fur has grown in just enough to get her past the irritation phase.
Daisy gets comfy wherever we get comfy.  She napped on my back.

We'll take her with us to a friend's birthday on Saturday where she'll meet a new playmate Hurley dog.  As always, looking forward to the weekend with the family.

Daisy's feeling more like herself Day 3 after surgery.  She's curled up with Brandon watching football on Sunday.

We head into another week... Happy Monday!

Post-Surgery

A little drowsy

Surgery went well, but we could do without the cone.  It was a rough night adjusting to the new collar, but Daisy stayed calm and found some kind of comfort for sleeping.  Some dogs like being left alone post-surgery, but as uncomfortable as it was for Daisy, she still wanted to feel the companionship.  I laid next to her on the floor while she found comfort in her bed.  She still wanted us close.

We didn't have to trick her into eating the post-surgery medicine.  She ate it right out of our hands with her dry food.  I can see that she's making herself more at home now.  We're just watching her closely and trying to keep the activity low until she's fully healed.
We spent all morning snoozing on the couch after we woke up before Brandon left for coaching.  The vet said we could remove the cone when she's under our supervision.  She found comfort in that and hasn't paid too much attention to her wound.  She does try to itch with her back leg every now and then but she responds quickly to our commands.  Its hard to monitor the dog when usually you're encouraging her activity.  She'll come around and before we know it, we'll be out and about again.

My neck is sore from the rough night's sleep.  I'm ready for Brandon to come home to keep Daisy company while I grab groceries.  I could also go for a hot bath to ease the muscles.  Until then, we'll try propping up the pillows to support the back and neck while we
 nap.

Surgery Day

Thinking about Daisy...We're waiting to hear from the doctor that we can come pick up Daisy after today's surgery.  We brought her to the vet this morning for her spay and removal of a small hernia that overlaid her bellybutton at birth.  She knew something was up when we had all our work bags, Mom, Dad, Daisy and her kennel with us in the elevator this morning.  The cute little face looked at me sadly as the friendly nurse took her in.  I missed our routine little lunch date today.

The nurse said that just yesterday a cavalier named Daisy had the same surgery (spay and belly button hernia).  I told her, that's my Daisy.  But the cavalier from yesterday was black, white and brown.  Funny, I didn't know Daisy was such a popular dog name.

We don't have a lot of activity planned during her recovery.  Just kicking back together.  We'll spend the weekend in our "cone of shame" and root on the Bears come sunday.

Catching Up

Brandon was away most the weekend on a team building trip.  After a winter weekend of outdoor activities, he couldn't go wrong with a warm furball to serve as his blanket and napping buddy Sunday night.  After much excitement and welcoming Dad home, Daisy snuggled up on his lap.

This was just the beginning of bonding for them.  Brandon had the whole day off for Martin Luther King day and it just so happens that Monday is Daisy Ann's first birthday!

Daisy and I spent the weekend visiting family and watching football--Go Bears!  Saturday we took a ride out to the suburbs and Daisy napped in her kennel.  We stopped at Hickory Creek Forest Preserve not far from my parents home for a walk on the trail.  A thin layer of snow packed the path.  We walked into the full forest of bare trees and white snow.  Daisy almost blended in with her white coat and brown spots.  We even ran some.  Daisy loves a little workout!  We spent that evening visiting my parents and relaxing to a movie.  Daisy found exactly where here grandma keeps the doggy treats.

When Sunday came, so did the snow.  After church, we opened the doors to the most beautiful snow globe... Perfect for Chicago Bears football.  Daisy and I went for a short walk to the park where it was oddly quiet.  Everyone and their dogs were at home watching the game already.  We took advantage of the empty dog area and made our own fun.  We both fell asleep on the couch later when we knew the Bears were far enough ahead.

Speaking of snoozing... That's a hobby Brandon and Daisy have in common.  Daisy greeted Brandon when he came home from his trip Sunday evening.  After many licks of love, they kicked back on the couch when I went to volleyball.  Come Monday, they spent her whole birthday together!

After sleeping in, they went to the park and played.  Afterwards, they stopped by Natural Paws and picked out a few birthday treats and toys for spoiling.

We planned to go for a family walk in the evening, but it was raining (and Daisy's not a fan of the rain) so that didn't work out.  Instead we went for a short ride together to pick up some food from Aurelios (Bears 35%/points discount).

Daisy had a full day of fun for her birthday!
Happy Birthday Daisy!

Welcome Home Daisy!

Headed into 2011, Brandon and I celebrated our first New Year's as a married couple.  That same weekend we brought on a new addition to our little family.  We welcomed Daisy home on Sunday January 2nd.  Daisy's our King Charles Cavalier puppy.  We will celebrate her first birthday this monday January 17th.  It will be an easy date to remember, as Brandon brought up, we started dating on my birthday April 17th.  So, the 17th is a family number for us.

Daisy's first two weeks with us went well.  They're a very adaptable breed and she's adjusted very well to city life.  She's learned two key spots where we "Be Quick" and get our business done.  She "stays close" when we walk across the street and we have a nice platform of grass at the park where we run together.  Daisy's the best nap buddy and she's proven to be a good little hockey pup.

She's had the opportunity to meet both of our families and she's one loving puppy!  She's a real gem and we love her very much.  We're excited for the adventures ahead and the times we'll share together with Daisy now in our lives.  Brandon and I will continue to share as we go.
Our Hockey Pup

This was too funny!  They're both snoozin' and Daisy wakes up, climbs up and gets cozy with Brandon.  Brandon doesn't even flinch.  They napped like this for atleast 20-30 minutes.  I was cracking up!

Our first morning together.  Brandon headed to teach and Daisy and I had the whole day off after New Year's weekend.  Daisy's ready to play and start the day, while it seems that Brandon's still sleepin'
